Last Night I Had The Strangest Dream

Lyrics title aside, it wasn’t so much strange as pretty depressing. Last night I dreamed that everything was going right, I was happy and confident. I could talk to people I wasn’t used to with the same confidence that I talk to my friends. Everything felt so much clearer, I wasn’t getting stressed at the slightest thing, I seemed to have everything in order. When presented with work, I sat down and did it without thinking. I proudly spoke of my side projects such as Mod Sentry to an old Teacher and was told I have got a three B’s for my first year of A-Levels. Of course I was soon to be rudely awakened by my mother at 1pm, torn away from that happy feeling and back into reality.

I had a feeling of belonging which I don’t get very much in real life, I spend so much time wanting to belong that I rarely do anything about it. My awkwardness and probable anxiety means that talking to strangers isn’t an easy task for me. Kind of brings back dreams of Anime Conventions from last year where I dreamed that feeling of belonging that I haven’t had since Fuyucon 2007 and even then it was held back by my severe lack of social skills.

I even lived away from home in a one room apartment with several classmates living in the same block. In my dream I had memories of good times and even talking to friends in those flats. Overall I can confirm that I am insane and should not be allowed near social situations of any kind.

Also, I told you I would only be using this blog for my crazy ass rambles.

OK, so you’re probably thinking, WHAT THE HELL? I thought this blog wasn’t updated anymore. Well I’m changing that now, after the incredible relaunch of Mod Sentry last week I’ve decide to also come back to this blog as well. There will be no specific posting pattern, I’ll just be posting whatever comes into my head at the time. This is pretty much going to become a place to rant/wail/talk about what’s going on my life. All the titles are going to be either song lyrics or titles from now on too, I’m not interested in search traffic or whatever, I want to spend time developing Mod Sentry which is almost making money thankfully.

So yeah just sit back and enjoy I guess, I’ll continue to post to Facebook and what not just because I enjoy spamming peoples feeds with it. Don’t expect much though, this is a when I have the time/need to write.

In the meantime, want to know what I’ve been busy with? Firstly I’ve relaunched Mod Sentry successfully. We hit 10k views several days ago and are receiving regular traffic thanks to the great mod creators who have helped by supporting us and whoever cited us on Wikipedia and the Nehrim Wiki (much love bro).

I’ve also been working on a secret project for my girlfriend’s dad, it’s pretty interesting and will potentially bring in some more income assuming it goes well. I’m doing website stuff for it and it’s going surprisingly well. I’m starting to learn CSS and HTML in order to help out as it’s fairly WordPress centric which I’ve actually become rather proficient at using much to my surprise.

I’ve also got a project involving Sarinah’s brother’s fictional characters, I’m going to be helping him turn them into a webcomic utilizing the Comicpress platform. So yeah… I’m pretty busy nowadays. Really hoping Mod Sentry goes well as I’ve got some pretty interesting plans on what I’m going to do with it!

OK, I know I’ve already slowed down posting recently but I do have a most excellent excuse (well two in fact), my new project has been underway for quite sometime and I’ve already been testing it and posting it on several relevant places. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time just setting up the website and it’s still not ready in my eyes, there is the major lack of logo and the navigation. The other reason was because I’ve been doing stuff recently, THAT’S RIGHT, I was actually out and about doing stuff. I even went Alton Towers and stuff. Well guys, it’s been a good run…but now that Amnesia: The Dark Descent finally has a demo out it’s game over for me, made by Frictional Games (they made Penumbra) this game is terrifying! I can’t say much more than go play it on Steam now to get an idea of where I’m coming from…

Why Recettear Is Awesome!?

Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale is a Japanese Indie game which has not only been officially translated into English, but it is also being released on Steam. It’s due to be released on September 10th on Steam and will cost a measly £10.

It provides a unique twist on the classic RPG style, rather than playing the adventurer, you are in control of an Item Shop selling a variety of Items to people. The main story of the game seems to involve you playing someone who has to pay back a large debt which your father owes to a fairy, the only way to pay back the debt is to make money through the Item Shop.

There are several ways to get items in the game ranging from purchasing them from the market, haggling with sellers that come to your store and ADVENTURING IN DUNGEONS KILLING MONSTERS RARARAR. It’s easy to see what the most interesting way to collect items is.

The game certainly has its charms and I recommend anyone to download the demo through Steam now.

World Of Tank Closed Beta

Today I discovered an amazing new MMO, it’s currently in the second phase of closed beta (which I am fortunate enough to be in) and features unique gameplay (in that you shoot tanks with tanks) for an MMO and at the same time provides us with several humourous (if ripped of Global Agenda) adverts to show tank superiority over other typical MMO styles.

I can’t say much (it is closed beta after all) but from what I’ve seen in the trailers and information online, it looks bloody brilliant.

Questioning Myself?

I think I’ve gotten to one of those points in life where I’m considering whether what I am spending most of my time on is actually worth it. I’ve spent 5 or so hours working on my new blog this morning and the previous night I spent almost 8 hours straight working on it. As much as I am impressed by my own dedication to this (a rare occurrence) I am still not sure if I can actually pull off the end result and then actually stick to it. With those doubts comes the wonderment of whether there is actually an audience for the kind of blog I’m doing, I’m well aware of the other mod review site which I will end up competing with and I’ve seen that they actually have found an audience if miniscule in the spectrum of popular review blogs. Now I really want to provide something useful to the mod community, I want to dedicate time into keeping user up-to-date with the latest modding news while providing quality reviews on a wide range mods for as many different games and engines as I can feasibly manage.

I’ve begun setting up systems to both ensure I stay update with the latest releases and happenings in as many mod communities as I can find and found several other reviewers who play mods for games that I don’t. I’ve set up a personal schedule that will regularly remind me of what needs to be done and I most certainly have the time to keep the site updated. Yet that little strain of doubt keeps pulling my hair and telling me that I’m missing something.

I haven’t properly gamed in quite some time and I’ve been neglecting the mod that I’m supposed to be working on, my sleeping pattern is beyond messed up and the only thing I find I can concentrate on is both ayf.co.uk and the new mod site which is consuming most my time. Thankfully most of my modifications are now finished for ayf.co.uk and I just need to work on a design for the main page which probably won’t be done until January (and that’s optimistic).

Sorry for bothering anyone who has had the patience to a: click the link and b: read this far but I felt like I had to get this out somewhere and hey, isn’t this what blogs are for?

Free Game Mash-Up Album: Gold’N'Fly

This isn’t new by any means but a suprising amount of people are still unaware of this awesome album that is full of nostalgia and hip-hop collided in such a way that it’s appealing to anyone.

Alex Kresovich is a hip-hop producer who has put his talents into creating the perfect collision between the Goldeneye game soundtrack and tracks from a variety of popular hip-hop artists. Inspired by Team Teamwork’s albums The Ocarina of Rhyme and Vinyl Fantasy 7 this album is sure to impress anyone old enough to have played the N64 Goldeneye game.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The Soundtrack

I haven’t covered any of my usual topics in a while, so I’m going to break back into habit by reviewing the Soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (the smaller soundtrack). I saw this movie last Wednesday and loved every second of it; it was an excellent adaptation of a brilliant comic series which I highly recommend.

Review: Scott Pilgrim Vs The World – Original Soundtrack

1. We Are Sex Bob-Omb by Sex Bob-Omb

Everything about this track screams ‘awesome’ without you really knowing why. You’re assaulted by something that can only be described as the Picasso of music. Everything somehow fits while, at the same time, overwhelming your senses forcing you to enjoy the track.

2. Scott Pilgrim by Plumtree

More relaxed than the previous track, the song in which the main character’s name comes from. It can be described as a beautiful Indie song that is both catchy and oddly comforting to the ears. Definitely a band to check out later.

3. I Heard Ramona Sing by Frank Black

Pretty much everything you can expect from the former frontman of the legendary Pixies. The song is entrancing. Yet another song where Bryan Lee O’Malley borrowed a name for a character.

4. By Your Side by Beachwood Sparks

A very slow song in contrast with the other songs so far. It’s enjoyable, but slows the album down a little too much while not being very memorable.

5. O Katrina! by Black Lips

An interesting punk song that while enjoyable, probably worked to better effect in the movie than in the album. Still worth a listen if you like that kind of music.

6. I’m Sad, So Very, Very Sad by Crash and the Boys

Thank you.

7. We Hate You Please Die by Crash and the Boys

Thankfully a bit longer than the previous song, this song is a really fun listen and you can see that Broken Social Scene went out of their way to create a memorable sound for the fictional band. Their work has certainly paid off.

8. Garbage Truck by Sex Bob-Omb

Damn, I love Sex Bob-Omb. Considerably slower than the opening track, but still possessing that element of ‘awesome’ that you rarely find within modern music. Also, Michael Cera.

9. Teenage Dream by T-Rex

What’s not to love about this classic track? A welcome addition to any soundtrack and fits harmoniously alongside the talents of Sex Bob-Omb and Crash and the Boys.

10. Sleazy Bed Track by The Bluetones

Another sad and slow track that changes the pace on the album dramatically. I’m beginning to feel the way this album takes you up and down emotionally (as the movie does), but upkeeping it’s momentum, a feature rarely found in most soundtracks.

11. It’s Getting Boring By The Sea by Blood Red Shoes

This song is extremely catchy. On my initial listen, I was quickly looking up their Spotify page and listening to their other tracks. Very enjoyable, an inkeeping with the indie feel of the movie.

12. Black Sheep by Metric

Sung by The Clash at Demonhead in the movie, this song certainly catches my attention. Probably one of the best tracks on the album (not counting Sex Bob-Omb tracks of course). This should be a pop hit! Why does it not play on the damn radio at work?…

13. Threshold by Sex Bob-Omb

A very memorable track. While you don’t really get what’s going on, you sure feel cool for listening to it. Plus more Michael Cera, so no complaints here.

14. Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl – Broken Social Scene

15. Under My Thumb – The Rolling Stones

Well they are the World’s Greatest Rock Band, so they certainly belong next to Sex Bob-Omb (World’s Greatest Fictional Rock Band).

16. Ramona (Acoustic Version) – Beck

It was better in the film but still funny to listen to afterwards and actually a pretty sweet short song.

17. Ramona – Beck

A longer, more developed and improved version of the previous song. I’ve never been a big fan of Beck, but this song has the potential to change my mind.

18. Summertime – Sex Bob-Omb

Probably my least favourite Sex Bob-Omb song, but still awesome nevertheless. I just can’t say anything bad about any Sex Bob-Omb songs…I WISH THEY WEREN’T FICTIONAL.

19. Threshold (8-Bit) by Brian LeBarton

An enjoyable little chiptunes track based on the Sex Bob-Omb song. It’s OK, but not amazing. Still a good bonus track for an excellent album.

So yeah I loved the album…
